Rebecca Lynn Bollacker Serbin (57) of Tampa, FL, passed away peacefully with family at her side February 12, 2022. She was born November 4, 1964 in Pocatello, ID to a loving mother, Suzanne Kathleen Hadley. Rebecca graduated from Lloyd V. Berkner High School in Richardson, TX in 1983. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from The University of Utah in 1991 and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Colorado in 1995. Her children, grandchildren, family, friends, and pets were the loves of her life.
Rebecca had a successful professional career and was well known for her intelligence, attention to detail, honesty, and ethics. For the last 10 years, she worked as a Senior Commercial Loan Document Specialist/Closer with Suncoast Credit Union. She resolved the most complex problems and always went the extra mile. Rebecca was reliable, dependable, and trustworthy in all she did. As a child, she learned the importance of independence and hard work, which served her well throughout her lifetime. She deeply cherished working alongside brilliant minds, who became lifelong dear friends, in many of the job positions she held.
She was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was a dedicated Christian, and strived to live a Christ-like life. Rebecca devoted her life to service and was honored for her record-number volunteer hours, though she never seeked recognition. She quietly sacrificed much to provide opportunities for her children, loved ones, and animals. She played a life-changing role as a Big Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay and as a passionate feline rescue and foster volunteer through Here Kitty Kitty, The Humane Society of Tampa Bay, and Rebels Rescue.
Rebecca always took time to notice and help those in need (especially children and the elderly), to make simple things meaningful and memorable, and shared all she had with those around her – many of whom she did not know personally. She held many teaching and serving positions at church and in her community, and put her whole heart into everything she did. She chose to spend her past several birthdays cleaning up trash and roadside debris for Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful. Rebecca truly had a humble heart and selflessly stepped up to serve at every opportunity!
During her lifetime, Rebecca endured many challenges which she faced with strength, courage, and confidence. She lived life on her terms and focused on the things that mattered most.
She had a lifelong love of music and would go to great lengths to experience concerts and shows – making many road trips to see multiple shows in multiple cities. She found joy and strength in music, most notably the 70’s classics including the Bee Gee’s and Cheap Trick! Rebecca played the piano from a young age and used her talents to share her love of music on many occasions. A few years ago, she worked tirelessly to learn the most challenging song she’d ever play to share on Christmas Sunday, which she executed to perfection.
Rebecca dearly cherished her daughters, Hadley and Dolly, and her grandchildren, Acelynn and Tyke. Together they adventured, laughed, played, danced, enjoyed yummy treats, rode wild roller coasters, watched favorite shows, and so much more. Many of Rebecca’s fondest memories included visits to the Hadley Family Homestead in Pocatello, ID. As she would say, “memories – we will enjoy them!”
Rebecca is survived by her two daughters: Hadley’anne (JoshuaLee) Ott, CO; Daltry “Dolly” Lynn Ames, UT; brothers, Reed (Kathleen) Bird, CO; Mark Bird, WA; and Jonathan (Cristi) Bird, ID; grandchildren Acelynn and Tyke Ott, CO; aunt Nancy (Lynn) Chatterton, UT and family; and uncle, Clark Hadley, CA and family. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, maternal grandmother, and maternal grandfather.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 8020 Gunn Hwy, Tampa, FL 33626. This will be an opportunity to pay respects, share memories, and honor her legacy; there will not be a formal service or viewing.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in honor of Rebecca to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay or The Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
