Norma Teresa Hallam, 89, passed away December 24, 2020. Born on June 26, 1931, Norma was a lifelong resident of Tampa and attended Sacred Heart Academy where she met her lifelong best friends; Alice Wills, Margie Cuesta, Olga Rhoads and Rita Diaz. Affectionately known as the “Fab Five”, they remained the closest of friends throughout their lifetimes.
In 1953, Norma met the love of her life, her late husband Philip, and 6 months later they were married. She was employed at Sears Roebuck & Co. for over 45 years and retired from there in the mid 1990’s. An avid reader, Norma was a World War II history buff and also loved learning about the history of the city of Tampa, her birthplace.
Preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Phil, Norma is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rosalind Castillo (Miguel) and Kristina Arena (Sammy); grandchildren, Michelle Fuste (Erik), Trace and Emerson Arena; great-granddaughters, Madison and Harper Fuste; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Norma was a fierce advocate of family and adored her children and grandchildren more than anything in the world.
Norma was a resident at the Colonnade of Carrollwood since June of 2018, where she met and made numerous new friends. The residents and staff there had become a second family to her.
Norma’s family would like to thank everyone who helped care for her during her brief illness, with a very special heartfelt thank you to Shawn and Barbara of St. Joseph’s Hospital North. The family will hold a private service on December 29, 2020. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choosing in Norma’s name.
