Nicholas “Nick” J. Sanson returned to his maker (his words) peacefully, in the morning on December 1, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Carol Sanson, daughter, Laura Sanson,son-in-law Ramsey Lahham, and extended family throughout the Boston, MA area.
Born March 10, 1930 in Boston, MA, before moving to Florida Nick spent 63 years of his life in Massachusetts. As a young man he ran multiple sales businesses with his father Pasqual, who also invested in real estate, before joining the MBTA at 30 years old. Driving for the Metropolitan Boston Transit Authority is where Nick met his wife Carol. The story is he set his sites on her and didn’t give. With 16 and a half years between them (she was 31, he was 48) She only agreed to a date after quite a few invitations. Lucky she did because that turned into 40 years of love, friendship, and adventure. She says his black hair and bright blue eyes were hard to resist. A daughter, Laura, was born in 1983. Laura brightened their world and kept things interesting, she’s more than a little like her father! Nick and Carol belonged to a camper group that took them and Laura on adventure every other weekend for the better part of a decade throughout Massachusetts and Florida. In 1992 adventure took them to Florida for a Disney vacation. By the time the trip was over they agreed that a move to Florida was only a matter of time. In March of 1993 they settled in Tampa where Laura attended elementary, middle, and high school. Moving to Florida made Nick happy. He was excited about not having to shovel snow and really enjoyed exploring a new place. He worked at Lazy Days RV delivering big beautiful recreational vehicles all over the southeast. When he retired in 2008 they had to hire 3 men to replace him. They didn’t realize he was doing much much more than his share of duties for years.
Nick, referred to as Daddy by daughter, Laura, was loud and came off abrasive to those not familiar with his heart, which only served as entertainment to Carol and Laura. Underneath his protective exterior he was kind, hilarious without trying, and giving beyond measure. He lived and died for his wife and daughter. Everything he did was for them, even making it to the ripe old age of 90. He used to say, “If you don’t get old you die young, no one lives forever”. He lives forever in our hearts and with 20 years service to the United States Army’s National Guard, and most importantly through the laughter he spread. He loved to people watch. He was very witty. Anything his wife cooks is his favorite, his judge of character was impeccable. His advice was timeless and always on point. He liked watches and 1950’s RedSox baseball. He believed in God but wasn’t interested in Church and cried with pride at the mention of his country, U.S.A. Always made sure to salute every American flag he saw.
Sayings he was famous for: “Calm down!”, If you tell him you’ll be back, his response was always, “Thanks for the warning”, “Thank you, thank you, thank you”, and if he loved you, you always heard, “I love you”.
Fun Facts:
At the age of 7 his mother, Grace, took him to the theater for his first time to see a new movie that had just come out, the movie was Snow White(1937).
As a teenager Nick ran an ice delivery business with his father, they were put out of business by the invention of the refrigerator.
He lived a long, happy life, surrounded by people who loved him deeply and kept him close, so you can’t say it isn’t fair that he isn’t with us. It is selfish to ask more of him when he gave us his all. What we can say is that he will be missed beyond measure, the love, the smiles, the laughs. The light he brought to our lives is with us forever.
We Love you Daddy!
