Nancy Meiss Shor McLaren, 91, passed away peacefully in her home on July 13, 2019 in Tampa, Florida. She is survived by her three children, Barbara, Thomas and William Shor, and her four grandchildren, Kyle, Jeremy, Kenneth and Deme Shor and her niece Toni Meiss Scherzer.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm on July 20, 2019 in the Carrollwood Chapel at Blount and Curry Funeral Home, 3207 W. Bearss Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33618.
Nancy was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Rita and Milfred Meiss on October 22,1927. She had two brothers, Robert and Harry, both deceased. She graduated with a degree in Home Economics from Western College in Oxford, Ohio. She then married Dr. Adolph Shor and together they had three children. She volunteered for many years at Jewish Hospital gift shop in Cincinnati.
After her divorce, she married Jack McLaren and moved to Tampa. She worked as a dietician for Pascoe County School District and later as a real estate agent. In 1996 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was treated successfully at Moffitt Cancer Center. She later volunteered in their gift shop, donating more than 2500 hours. More recently she volunteered at Kids and Canines, a program serving disadvantaged and at-risk youth using dogs for emotional support.
Nancy always loved dogs and had many over the years, the last of which was a sweet Shih Tzu named Louie. She found the best home possible for little Louie when she could no longer care for him.
Nancy was a talented artist. Both her mother and grandmother were also gifted artists and made exquisite furniture. Nancy's beautiful watercolor paintings of animals, and also her scratchboard drawings, will be passed on to her loved ones.
Prior to her diagnosis of bone and brain cancer, she was actively driving, playing bridge and having meals with her many beloved friends. She was an incredibly young 91 year old!
Nancy's family wishes to extend sincere gratitude and appreciation for the compassionate care provided by LifePath Hospice and Bayada Assistive Care. These dedicated, competent professionals made our mother's final days so much more peaceful and loving. Thank you so much.
