Mary Fitzpatrick is survived by her 9 children and their spouses, Tim and Sherrie Fitzpatrick, Bob Fitzpatrick, Barbara Fitzpatrick, Kathleen and James Jimenez, Maureen and Mike Benítez, Patsy and Russell Bly, Donna and Michael Plant, Becky and Julio Veulens, and Debbie Cruz, as well as, countless grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband James Fitzpatrick, granddaughter Danielle Cruz, and son-in law Joe Cruz.
Mary was born on October 27,1928 in Mobile, Alabama to Irma Heidemann Rooney and George Leo Rooney Sr. She married James Fitzpatrick, her sweetheart, in 1952. Over the course of their marriage, the couple welcomed 9 children into their home. Mary was a homemaker who was devoted to raising her children with faith, love, and laughter. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren remember her as a kind, gentle, and loving mother and memaw who always had a word of encouragement, prayer, and hug waiting.
Mary was accomplished at playing the tuba and played in her high school marching band. She also loved to play “lightly row” on the piano. She enjoyed watching the marching bands and celebrating Mardi Gras. Memaw was competitive when it came to cards, and playing basketball with her grandchildren. Her favorite teams to root for were Alabama Crimson Tide and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers! Mary’s favorite games to play with her girlfriends were bingo and bunco. She loved shopping, being outdoors, celebrating life, and caring for all of her children. She enjoyed going to our Florida beaches and taking camping trips with the family. She was an active and dedicated member of the Catholic church who was passionate about her faith and her family.
A visitation service will be held Wednesday, March 29th from 6pm-8pm at Blount and Curry Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10am, Thursday, March 30th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church followed by the burial at Veteran’s National Cemetery in Bushnell. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary's life. The family would like to thank Christine “Christy” RN, Liz our social worker, and Chaplin Chip, as well as, Dr. DiBartolomeo from the Burgundy Team with Chapters Health System.
