Maria was born in Havana, Cuba and emigrated to New York City with her immediate family in 1966. From there, Maria and her family moved to Providence, Rhode Island before relocating to Tampa, Florida in 1979. She graduated from Classical High School in Providence, Rhode Island before moving to Tampa with her family shortly afterwards. Once established in Florida, Maria began a long career as a member of the Change division with MetLife insurance and later transitioned to other local insurance companies as a medical insurance underwriter. Maria was a devout member of the local St. Lawrence parish for many years and her strong faith was a guiding force for her throughout her entire life.
Maria is survived by her loving parents, Gabriel and Haidee Echazabal as well as by her two siblings, sister Maggie and brother Gabe. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend, Nancy, who was more like another sister to her.
Maria was surrounded by a large number of nieces and nephews who were her pride and joy. Her goal was always to provide for them and to love and nurture them with all her heart. Her long list of beloved nieces and nephews includes: Dylan, Layla, Ethan, Tally, JJ, Christian, Isabella, Mia, Sophia, Emily, Naomi, Isaac, and Noelle.
Additionally, Maria is survived by various family members and friends who loved her dearly.

A celebration of life visitation for Maria was held Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610, followed by a a celebration of life service at 2:00 PM.
