Swick, Lewis Joseph, passed away peacefully in his home on June 26, 2021, at the age of 102. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 60 years, Marge. The youngest of four siblings, Lew was born on Valentine’s Day, 1919 in Hornell, N.Y. He became a pilot and worked as a flight instructor and civilian pilot until World War II, when he chose to become an aviator for the Navy. Lew was stationed in the South Pacific, reaching the rank of lieutenant.
Lew and Marge moved with their three daughters from Wayland, N.Y. to Tampa in 1957 when he became the chief pilot for Jim Walter Corporation. He remained the company’s Director of Aviation until his retirement.
Lew is survived by his daughters, Margaret (Richard), Camilla, and Sally (Ken); eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren who affectionally refer to him as “Mister.” Lew’s quick wit and hearty laugh filled every room with happiness. A man of deep and abiding faith, Lew was a rock in times of need and a great companion in times of joy. He is loved and revered by all those fortunate enough to have known him over the course of his remarkable life. He will be deeply missed.
A funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Mary Help of Christians. Interment to follow in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.
