Laurence Richard (Larry) Miniati, 79, died March 15, 2021 from injuries suffered in a fall. He was born April 17, 1941 in Pawtucket, RI to the late Peter Joseph and Leonora Giusti Miniati. He moved to Tampa in 1972 from Cohasset, MA. Larry graduated from high school at St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket in 1959. He received his degree in economics in 1963 from the University of Rhode Island, where he was a member of the sailing team and Phi Mu Delta fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and met his wife while stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in 1964. He started his career in Hartford, CT and then worked in Boston, MA and Tampa. He was a stockbroker for 46 years at several companies and retired from UBS Financial Services, Inc. in 2010.
His passion for over 50 years was sailing. He sailed all along the east from Rhode Island to as far south as Puerto Rico. He was a leader with boy scout troop 319 in Carrollwood and enjoyed backpacking and hiking the Appalachian Trail with his sons when they were young. More recently, he enjoyed fishing and lobstering in the Bahamas every year. He was a member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, where he kept his boat. He loved to read and exchange books with friends. Curiously, currently he was rereading "The Young Man's Guide" book, which was given to him by his parents in 1952. Maybe he was checking to see if he had done everything right.
Survivors include his wife Geri Dansby Miniati, sons Jay C. of Tampa, Michael A.(Pam) of Tampa, Doug N. (Wona) of Granite Bay, California; six grandchildren, Luca, Maddie, Nico, Francesca, Tyler and Whitney Miniati; brother Peter J. Miniati, Jr. (Rosemary) of Barrington, RI; many nieces and nephews, several cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law in South Carolina and Georgia, and his pet kitties Bobbi and Julie.
Funeral services will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Church at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2021 with social distancing required. Interment will follow at Lake Carroll Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Raphael Academy, 123 Walcott St., Pawtucket, RI 02860; the University of Rhode Island Foundation, 79 Upper College Rd, Kingston, RI 02881; or Most Holy Redeemer Church, 10110 N. Central Ave., Tampa, FL 33612.
