Larry Wayne Rash, 60, of Tampa, FL passed away Sunday, July 26th, 2020 at Advent Carrollwood Hospital. Preceded in death by his mother, Janet Lee (Frith) Rash. Larry is survived by his father, Harold Wayne Rash, brother; Tim Rash, sister-in-law; Beth Dible, nephews; Connor and Mick Rash, niece; Natalie Rash, and cousins Kelly Hale, Michelle Brock, Mika and Courtney Saylor.
Larry was born at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH on February 23, 1960. He weighed only 5lb.-5½ oz. Larry was so small his mom made little shirts and shorts for him to wear. Later, his father, Harold, bought his first shirt and pants outfit which included a little tie. Larry has been a snappy dresser ever since! His mother, Janet, taught him to entertain and many of us have enjoyed his parties and buffets over time.
Larry grew up in a strong Christian family and was baptized at the Winslow Park Baptist Church in Sharonville, OH early in his life. His parents moved to a small farm while he was growing up, with ponies, ducks, motorcycles and lots of room to roam. He learned to play piano from Gerry Wilson, taking weekly lessons from age seven until age twenty and playing for various church groups. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Orlando, singing in the choir there.
The family took many camping vacations over the years, beginning when Larry was 7 to Cumberland Falls, Kentucky and including fishing trips to Canada, trips to the Smokey Mountains, Florida, and a bicentennial trip out west. Larry continued traveling as an adult, with trips to Europe with his parents and many work reward trips, which he loved. He enjoyed being with his coworkers and photographing works of architecture.
Larry studied drafting and architecture at D. Russell Lee Vocational School where he had a co-op position at Steed, Hammond and Paul Architects. He earned a BS Degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati in 1982 and gained his registration from the State of Wisconsin in 1996.
Larry worked for Ryland Homes for many years, beginning in Cincinnati then transferring to Atlanta and later to Orlando. Most recently, Larry worked for ten years for Davis Bews Design Group as the firm grew.
Larry’s passion was designing homes where families could live out their dreams. He was a terrific decorator and often helped his friends and co-workers with DIY projects and decorating ideas as well. A few years ago, Larry designed a vacation home in Maine for his brother’s family which epitomized the detail and creativity he brought to every project. He is now looking down from heaven and seeing how his passion brings joy to many families’ everyday lives…
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to an architectural scholarship fund being established in Larry’s name by the family. Here is a link to the fund: https://gf.me/u/yi4589
