Born on what he thought was December 13, 1939, he later discovered that he wasn’t a lost member of the House of Romanov, but instead born on December 23rd—a proud son of the House of Hoffman in Cleveland, Ohio.
After graduating from high school, his parents gifted him a trip to Parris—Island, that is—where he learned honor, duty, and an unwavering love for his country. After serving proudly in the Marine Corps and being honorably discharged, John eventually made his way to Florida, where he worked as an electrician by trade but was a homemaker at heart.
John had a passion for collecting— model trains, Hess trucks, sports memorabilia, and guns among his prized possessions. An avid reader, he was drawn to Westerns like Lonesome Dove and the thrillers of Tom Clancy. He even penned his own memoir, still awaiting its release.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Anita; his loving daughters Kim Weidlich (Earl), Tracy Hoffman, Jennifer Williams (Curtis), and Heather Fabel (Karl); his nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and his loyal dog, Buddy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ada; his brother, Robert; his sisters, Irma and Jean; his son, GySgt Michael Hoffman (Sonja); and his two beloved labs, Woody and Obi.
He loved to be on the water, he loved sports, but above all, he loved his family. He was the Captain of our boats, our Big Cheese and our head Coach. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A service will be held at Florida National Cemetery in the near future, with details to be shared at a later date.
