Sid was born in Malden, Missouri to John Sidney Davis and Marjorie McLamb Davis on July 19, 1950. A graduate of Malden High School, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Western Carolina University. He was a proud graduate of the University of Missouri, where he earned his PhD in Counseling Psychology. He met Angela in 2003 and they married on October 15, 2011 in Tampa. Sid showed a lifelong commitment to our nation’s veterans, providing psychological services with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for a total of 33 years. He was instrumental to the development of the VA’s federal mediation program, as well as the national VA program for violence prevention, and received a number of awards for those efforts. He retired from the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in 2016.
Sid developed a great love of the outdoors during his childhood in Malden. He was an avid hiker and camper. He made four multi-day canoe trips through Everglades National Park with his father-in-law, Dennis, as well as a number of solo and group adventures on his Harley-Davidson Road King. He loved to travel, and was able to fulfill two of his lifetime dreams by traveling to the Galapagos Islands in 2017 and Easter Island in 2019. Sid enjoyed woodworking, and under the mentorship of luthier Jose R. Luis, made eight classical guitars which he generously gifted to friends and family. He also built two kayaks, one of which he frequently took for excursions around Tampa Bay.
Sid was known by all who knew him as a friendly, compassionate, generous, and caring man. It can truly be said that he never met a stranger. He was also a devoted and loving husband. Nothing brought him greater joy than his children and grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart.
Sid was preceded in death by his parents, John Sidney Davis and Marjorie McLamb Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Angela McBride, children Jackson (Michelle) Davis of Ardsley, NY and Emily (David) Ramsey of Greensboro, NC, sister Beth (Frank) Kiesner of Edina, MN, grandchildren Francesca, Reid, William, Enzo, and Alice, nephew Matthew (Paula) Goolsby of Atlanta, GA, and great-nieces Brooklyn and Maya.
Friends are welcome to gather for a reception to celebrate Sid's life from 2-4pm on Sunday, August 29th, followed by a service at 4pm.
