Jeorge Eric (Tate) Taylor passed away suddenly on December 17th, 2024 at his home in Tampa, Florida at the age of 59. He was a beloved husband to Stacy for 31 years, father to Julian, Bennett, Virginia and Trey, and devoted attorney at Trenam Law since 1991.
Tate was born in Hayti, Missouri to his mother, the former Susan Belloc, and his father, Dr. James Eric Taylor, Jr. He graduated from Clearwater High School, where he thrived in theater and performing arts. He attended the University of Florida as a “Double Gator” graduating with his B.S. and J.D. He served as UF Blue Key President, President of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, President of the Inner Fraternity Council, and eventually elected to the University of Florida Hall of Fame.
Tate was wholly selfless, a dedicated father whose wife and family came first in his life. He sacrificed so many weekends traveling to lacrosse tournaments, never denying an opportunity for his children to succeed and participate in numerous extracurriculars throughout their school years. He cherished his Coke Zero, his Jai Alai, and a hearty glass of Cabernet after a long day, content to relax with the sound of an eclectic music taste across a plethora of genres.
Tate began working at Trenam Law Firm in 1991, where he diligently worked in Trust and Estate Law, and currently served as the Co-Chair of the Private Client Services Practice Group. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Firm for 10 years, nine as Chair. He cherished his work and his co-workers, especially Hal Mullis, who he looked up to as a mentor in the firm; with his law school classmates Rob Stern and Nelson Castellano; and with his current team, including Marla Bohlander, Amy Jo Wessling, and all members of the Trenam staff.
Outside of work and his family, Tate was passionate about his faith in Christ, serving in a variety of leadership roles in the Church and especially in Christian education. He served diligently on the board of the former Berean Academy, and recently in the same position at Westminster Academy. His passion for his faith created the foundation for his life, and his relationships with his brothers and sisters in Christ were some of his most cherished.
In lieu of flowers, his family kindly requests donations be made to the Saint Petersburg Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 600 83rd Ave. NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33702 or online at www.stpetepca.org. Additionally, donations for the continued support of Westminster Academy can be made at westminstertampa.org/support.
Tate is survived by his wife, Stacy; his children: his parents, Susan Belloc Taylor and Dr. James Eric Taylor Jr; and his sister, Joy Taylor and husband Tony and four children.
