Jean (Dassinger) Spence, age 88, of Venice, Florida passed away on Thursday May 16, 2019. She was born June 30, 1930 in Enterprise, Alabama. Her family moved to Tampa where she graduated from Hillsborough High School. Jean moved to East Point, Georgia, where she worked as a beautician before meeting and marrying her husband of 68 years, Luther Spence. She is predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Mary Dassinger and her sister, Martha Stanbro.
Jean was a wonderful mother of 3 children: David L. Spence (Amy), Philip W. Spence, and Brenda K. Campbell (Bill), and Nana to 5 grandchildren: Halley Spence, Beecher Spence and Charlie Spence of Wesley Chapel, FL, and Thomas Campbell and Michael Campbell of Raleigh, NC. She was a loving sister to Martha Stanbro (Herb) and Wren Wheeler, as well as Sister-in-Law to Lucille Spence Maddox (Ray). She was a loved 'Aunt Jeanie' to many nieces and nephews.
While she was primarily a homemaker and mother, Jean volunteered her time for the Methodist Children's Home and Veteran's Affairs Center while living in Lexington, KY. She and Luther traveled to see all of the US and some foreign countries up until the last few years of her life.
Jean suffered with Alzheimer's disease in her final years, so her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her memory.
A graveside service for Jean will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at the Garden of Memories, 4207 E. Lake Ave., Tampa, FL 33610.
