Janice Murphy

She was born on October 9, 1943 in Bloomfield, N.J. and was the daughter of the late Hugh and Eileen Murphy. She was predeceased by her sister Eileen Flynn and leaves a niece, Meghan Flynn of NC and nephews Brian Flynn of NJ and Brendan Flynn of FL, as well as many friends.

Janice was well versed and an avid traveler, having visited a great many countries throughout the world. Among her favorite trips included Egypt, Africa and Ireland, of course, because she was very proud of her Irish heritage. Bermuda also always held a special place in her heart. She had a great sense of adventure starting with her Outward Bound Wilderness leadership course when she was young. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor which would keep people laughing and command attention of a group.

She was very accomplished and began her professional career in the Pharmaceutical Sales industry as one of the first female hires with Schering Plough. She then worked for Astra Zeneca where she retired after a 20-year career that included Oncology Sales and Regulatory Affairs.

Education was of great importance to Jan and she obtained her law degree at Western New England College of Law School in 1986 at which point she accepted a legal position with Astra Zeneca and relocated from Boston to Florida, where she remained.

Janice had a passion for golf and could be found on many days teeing off at any of her favorite local courses. She as a voracious reader, especially on historical subjects, and could often be found absorbed in a book late into the night. Swimming was also a loved sport. A very devoted Catholic and generous donor, she had great empathy for people. She was a very loved friend and confidant by many and will be greatly missed.

Mass will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church, 12708 N Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa Florida on Thursday, October 19th, 2023 at 2:30 pm.

Any contributions in lieu of flowers can be made in her name to St. Paul’s Church in Tampa Florida.

She will be laid to rest later at Rosedale Cemetery in East Orange, NJ.
