Simmons, Georgia E. 95, of Tampa passed away on June 13, 2023. She was born Georgia Edith Frayne in Balboa Heights of the Panama Canal Zone, and spent most of her childhood in New Port Richey, FL. She graduated from Hillsborough High School, attended Indiana University and graduated from the University of Tampa.
Georgia was a music educator in the Pasco County school system. Upon her retirement, she led an incredibly full and varied life. She continued her passion for music by teaching piano and voice lessons from her south Tampa home. She also enjoyed traveling the U.S., Canada, Europe and seeing and keeping close to her cousins in England. A member of the Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, she sang in the choir for more than 30 years and assisted with music camps for the church youth. Georgia was a member of the Garden Club in south Tampa and her Westshore home was the home base for many, many events and celebrations with her family and her participation in the raising of her three grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters Pam (John) Williams of Lutz and Robin Simmons of south Tampa, grandson Jeffrey Williams (Wife Lacy) of Colorado, granddaughters Kelly Blanchat (Dan Valen) of Connecticut and Kathryn Grimes (Husband Max) of Tampa, and great grandchildren Calla Grimes, Chloe Grimes, and Virginia Valen.
Georgia was predeceased by her husband, William J. "Bill" Simmons and on son, Bill Jr.
A reception for Georgia will be held at the Blount & Curry funeral home, 605 S. MacDill Ave. in Tampa from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, 3501 W. San Jose St., Tampa, with The Reverend Dr. John T. DeBevoise officiating. A private family burial will take place at the Garden of Memories. The family would like to thank very much Georgia's caregivers at Arbor Terrace in Tampa, St. Joseph's Hospital North, Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church and Lifepath Hospice for their support during her final illness. In memory of Georgia, donations can be made to Lifepath Hospice of Tampa.
