He is survived by his sons, Ernest, Rick (Pam), and Dennis Fernandez; his sister, Norma Farfante (Angel); his grandchildren, Ernest Jr., Melissa, Katherine, Emma, Domenic, and Ricky Fernandez, in addition to a wonderful and loving circle of extended family and friends.
Born in Ybor City on December 2, 1938, and a lifelong Tampa resident, Ernie attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Academy, University of Tampa (Tampa U), and University of South Florida. His professional career as an educator spanned over 42 years with Hillsborough County Public Schools, exceling as a teacher, principal, and administrator, eventually centering on Adult and Community Education. He served as administrator of Brandon Academy from 1973-86 and was very active in the Brandon community. He donated his time and expertise to many boards, advocating for educational excellence and improved teacher benefits. Ernie had a passion for cars, especially for Corvettes, which he enjoyed throughout his life.
An hour Visitation will be held on December 27, 2021, at 9:00 a.m., immediately followed by a Funeral Service, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL., with Interment immediately following at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
