Edwin Joel Tobias Balagtas

Edwin Joel Tobias Balagtas, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, in Tampa, Florida. Born on July 27, 1961, in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Edwin was known for his vibrant personality and infectious sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around him. He had a Devotion to the Divine Mercy and prays the novena everyday. He had lots of friends and will be missed at Couples for Christ and at their Cenacle prayer group.

He will be missed by his devoted wife Zeresh Zano Balagtas and two daughters Janelle and Gabrielle, son in law Scott, 2 grand children, 2 sisters and 3 brothers, countless relatives and friends. Edwin’s love for his family was boundless. His laughter echoed through the halls of their home as he playfully teased his loved ones—a trait that often sparked lighthearted squabbles with his siblings during their childhood but ultimately became part of the charm that defined him.

Edwin's unique character shone brightly throughout his life. He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh with frank observations and clever jokes. Friends would often remark how they could always count on Edwin to lighten any mood or situation with just a few well-placed words or antics. Beneath this playful exterior lay a generous spirit—he was frugal yet caring—and those who knew him understood that every gesture came from a place of deep affection.

As we remember Edwin today, we celebrate not only the laughter he shared but also the warmth he exuded towards others. He touched countless lives through acts of kindness big and small; whether it was lending an ear when someone needed to talk or offering help without hesitation.

A funeral service honoring Edwin will be held on Saturday, January 4th, 2025 at 12 PM at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church located at 2405 Philippe Pkwy, Safety Harbor, FL 34695. Family members invite all who knew him to join them in celebrating the remarkable life of this extraordinary man whose legacy will forever live on in our hearts.
