Douglas Ronald Hunter Jr.

Ron was born on December 7, 1937, to Douglas R. Hunter, Sr. & Mary Catherine West Hunter in Ocala, FL. A lifelong Florida resident, he attended Gorrie Elementary & Wilson Junior High. After graduating from H.B. Plant High School in 1956, he went on to study at the University of Florida where he pledged Sigma Nu fraternity. He returned to his boyhood home in Tampa after 2 years, when he promptly enlisted in the Florida Army National Guard.

Being a “people person”, Ron worked in insurance sales and retired in 2016.

In 1977, Ron met Laura Ann Skiratko, and they wed in 1979, going on to blend their family of 4 children: Michele & Doug Hunter, Stacy & Suzanne Skiratko.

Ron was a lifelong fisherman who enjoyed casting a line wherever and whenever possible. His favorite fishing spot was Englewood, FL. He loved football was a season ticket holder for both the University of Florida Gators and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, Douglas, Sr. & Mary W. Phillips. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Laura Ann (Monts De Oca) Hunter, as well as his children Michele (Jim) Gire of Centerburg, OH, Douglas (Debra) of Fernandina Beach, FL, Stacy (Terry) Collins of Tampa and Suzanne Skiratko of Tampa. His grandchildren & great-grandchildren survive: Nicholas (Laura) Blankenship and children: Lila, Austin & Vivian, Mason (Elisabeth) Blankenship & child, Steven, Tate Hunter, Teryn Collins, Rhett Hunter, & Quinn Hunter.

Visitation will be held at Blount & Curry, 605 S. MacDill Ave., Tampa, FL 33609 on Feb. 25, 2023, from 2-6pm. Private burial will be held at Myrtle Hill on Feb. 26, 2023. In lieu of flowers consider a charitable donation to the Alzheimer’s Research Association, Hospice or the charity of your choice.
