Tampa, FL – Dr. Charles (Charlie) Gordon Walker, born January 9th, 1935, in Miami, FL, a long-time Tampa area psychiatrist, peacefully passed away on July 29th, 2023, surrounded by family.
Dr. Walker spent 48 years as a proud partner of Gonzalez, Walker & Webb psychiatry group. He retired in 2017. He was a dearly respected physician, both by his peers and his patients. Dr. Walker was a true medical practitioner who prioritized patient care to ensure all those in need had access to his services.
Charlie initially received a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Florida but after some time in the workforce, discovered his true passion was to connect with and help others. He returned to the University of Florida, College of Medicine to pursue his medical degree in psychiatry. He completed residencies at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA, followed by Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL, and Charlie proudly served in the US Air Force Reserves.
Perhaps more impressive than his medical practice is the family legacy Charlie leaves behind. A proud parent to 6 children, 2 stepchildren and grandfather to 17 grandchildren. Charlie was always there for his kids and worked hard to provide for his family. He supported his children through their childhood sports of baseball, football, and tennis. Charlie was an avid runner, participating in numerous marathons, half-marathons, and 10Ks, even into his early 80s. He was a gifted artist, sailor, and gardener. He was a quiet, smart, humble, giving man. He was loved and is deeply missed by all who knew him.
Charlie is survived by his wife Susan Hansted-Walker, Tampa, FL, his sister Jean Craft, Miami, FL, his children Jeffrey Walker, Michael Walker (Megan), David Walker (Garnet), Angela Reid (Michael), Adam Walker (Maria), and Matthew Walker (Amy), his step children Timothy Hansted and Amy Miller (Jeff), and his grandchildren Gabrielle, Nicholas (their mother Cresia Walker), Madeline, Meryl, Miles, Caden, Christian, Benjamin, Emily, Matthew, Zachary, William, Amelia, Julia, Bennett, Laurel and Hannah (daughter of Timothy Hansted), and numerous nieces and nephews.
