Brian Edward Smith

Brian was born on December 24, 1967, to Kenneth Smith and Marianne Sangster in Bridgeport, CT, at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He grew up in Connecticut with his brother and best friend, Kenny, where he first attended Thomas Hooker Elementary and Middle School in Bridgeport, CT. Brian was raised in part largely by his loving grandmother and aunts, DeeDee and Betty, so that his mother Marianne could attend Nursing school. As a young boy Brian was notorious for being incredibly fun-loving and goofy, where he most enjoyed playing with all his friends and brother Kenny. While Brian was a young child, he was always playing baseball. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Trumbull, CT in 1985, as an active member of the swim and dive team, and participated as a pole vaulter during his time. Brian moved to Florida to attend Florida Atlantic University where he achieved his BSN alongside his nursing degree in 1992. After working in the cardiac cath lab in Boca Raton, FL, Brian moved to central Maine and worked as a travel nurse in 1997. He returned to Florida to be close with his lifelong best friend, his brother Kenny, at Tampa General Hospital in 2002.

After completing nursing school, Brian became a cardiac cath lab nurse where he was handpicked out of Tampa General to become a Clinical Consultant at Volcano. This allowed Brian to positively impact cardiac care throughout the greater North Florida area. Brian moved up the ranks quickly to become a Territory Manager and then Area Manager where he has won numerous company awards. Brian’s passion for cardiology and patient care led him to make a lasting difference for those physicians he worked with, his numerous Philips friends and colleagues, and ultimately those patients he helped care for.

Brian loved living life to the fullest, from traveling to international destinations such as Amsterdam, Cozumel, and London, to all across the United States, including Kentucky, New York, Massachusetts, Montana, and Washington. In particular, he loved boating and fishing, as well as hiking at any destination he and his family were traveling to. While not on a boat and at home, he loved local sports, with his favorite team the Tampa Bay Lightning, whom he enjoyed cheering on throughout the years. He also had a joy for playing video games such as Everquest, Age of Empires, and Valheim, spending time with friends and family, sharing his joy and love over his many interests. He loved music throughout the eras most notably his favorites Eddie Van Halen, Rush, and Led Zeppelin amongst many. He spent his time relaxing by frequenting live music events at local restaurants and pubs, like the Wild Rover.

In 2000, Brian welcomed his daughter Emily into the world, and in 2003 he welcomed his son Nathaniel. In 2006 he married his beloved wife Marlene, and shortly welcomed their son Simon in 2007. Brian also gained three step-children, Todd, James, and Anna, and he was a dedicated and wonderful father to them all. Brian trained their French Mastiff, Mack, to be the guardian of the house and the horror to all post office workers who dare to deliver mail. In recent years, Brian and Marlene were foster parents to six children, sharing their compassion and kindness beyond their family to others. He enjoyed spending time with their current foster daughter, Isabella, who shared her light with him.

Brian is predeceased by his father, Kenneth. He is survived by his wife, Marlene, and his children, Todd, James, Emily, Anna, Nathaniel, and Simon. He is survived by his brother, Kenny, and their mother, Marianne. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and loving in-laws.

A visitation for Brian will be held Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Blount & Curry FH-Carrollwood, 3207 W Bearss Ave, Tampa, FL 33618, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
