Betty Joyce S. Shetter, 87, Tampa, passed away February 17, 2021. Betty was born at home April 17, 1933 in LaFayette, Ga. to the late Tom S. and Sue B. Coulter. Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Eugene Jackson Shetter. She is survived by her children, Kenneth Shetter of Marietta, Ga., Patricia Bornemann of Tampa, Fla., and Carol Reddick (Randy) of Kingston, Tenn.; grandchildren, Sydnee Marchese, Ryan Bornemann, Caitlin Shetter-Mitchell, Kelly Kipp, Devon Reddick, Kelsey Smith, and Rebecca Poplawski; great-grandchildren, Isabella Marchese, Nash Bornemann, Finnley Bornemann, Andrew Reddick, Mihály Mitchell and Theo Smith; and nephews Rick Gilreath and Ron Gilreath.
Betty graduated from Lakeview High School in 1950 and was widowed after a brief marriage to Charles Smith, of Lakeview, Ga. While both members of Newnan Springs United Methodist Church, Eugene ‘Jack’ Shetter and Betty Coulter Smith were married on March 27, 1953. Betty spent her career in telecommunications and retired after many years with Tampa Electric Company. In her retirement, Betty volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Palma Ceia United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and loving grandmother to her seven grandchildren. Betty and Jack enjoyed their road trips to every U.S. state and Canadian province, as well as traveling to Mexico and Europe. Betty loved being close to the beach and her favorite destination was seaside Carmel, Calif. For nearly seven decades, she was a member of Palma Ceia United Methodist Church, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband in the Memorial Garden and Columbarium. A private celebration of life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palma Ceia United Methodist Church.
