Betty was born on April 19, 1926 in Greenville, South Carolina, to Robert Wade Harrison and Ida Mae Southern Harrison. She remained proud of her South Carolina roots and Harrison lineage throughout her life. She married the love of her life, Jack Morales Fueyo, on June 9, 1946 in Greenville, South Carolina. She then moved with her husband to Tampa, his home, where she lived the remainder of her life, nearly 77 years.
She was a Founding Member of Wellswood Baptist Church in Tampa and was known by all for her steadfast service, fellowship and support of the Church and congregation throughout the life of its mission, including being part of the Church choir as long as she was able.
She and Jack had four children, John Louis "Jack" Fueyo (Lorraine), 74, Cooper City, Florida, Michael Harrison Fueyo (Suzanne), 71, Sarasota, Florida, Patricia Lynne Tamayo, 66 (David Betancourt), Tampa, and Richard Kent Fueyo (Mary Ann), 61, also of Tampa. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
After raising her four children, Betty worked as a legal secretary with the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office. She subsequently served as the School Secretary of St. Mary's Episcopal Day School in South Tampa, where she spent the remainder of her career until retirement in 1988. In retirement, she and her husband Jack traveled to see their children, and often traveled to other locales with her beloved sister Nancy, who predeceased her. After she was widowed in 2004, she continued to travel with friends Bobbi Klein, Suzi Russell, her daughter Patti, and others. She also continued to enjoy the friendship of lifelong friends, including Dean Olsen, weekly Skip Bo games with the Skip Bo Girls, visits to and from her growing collection of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as from beloved nieces and nephews and their families from South Carolina and Michigan, home of her sister Dot, who also predeceased her.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, April 2 from 10 AM till noon at Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 N Dale Mabry Hwy. (813-931-1833). The visitation will be immediately followed by funeral services at the same location. Betty will then be interred next to her beloved husband Jack after a brief additional graveside service at the Centro Asturiano Cemetery Memorial Park, 5400 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The services will be officiated by Betty's grandson Pastor Steve Tamayo of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship with a reading by Betty’s Pastor Jeremy Weart. The service will also be livestreamed, with the link below.
The family would like to specially thank the wonderful hospice care from the Plum Team she received the last year of her life, and special caregivers too numerous to mention.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to her grandson Steve's ministry. Links to that ministry and to the livestream are at bettyfueyomemorial.org
