Alvin Dean Remmers (Dean), 71, of Tampa, Florida passed away peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer. Dean was able to spend his last few days surrounded by his family from Florida and Kansas.
Dean was born on March 10, 1952, in Pawnee City, Nebraska to Alvin and Gretchen (Grussing) Remmers. At an early age, the family moved to Sabetha, Kansas where Dean continued his schooling until graduation in 1970. During his younger years, he played baseball, football, and loved swimming. In high school, he was active in several school plays and was a member of the National Honor Society. Dean was President of the Sabetha High School Student Council during his senior year. During high school, Dean worked for several area farmers throwing hay and in the meat department at Summers Market. After high school, Dean attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He received his CPA certification in February 1980.
Dean worked for Arthur Anderson in Kansas City from 1977 to 1982 before becoming employed with Tampa Electric in Tampa, Florida in 1982. From this point, he had a terrific and impressive career. He started as an eager Accounting Director at Tampa Electric, then served as Assistant Controller for TECO Energy, Inc. He joined TECO Power Services in 1999 as Vice President. His twenty plus years of friendships were solid and sound which all his TECO friends will miss. Dean then volunteered his time at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay before becoming employed as the Chief Financial Officer from January 2005 until his full retirement in December 2011.
Dean was married to Chrys Ann Shepard on November 14, 1998, and genuinely loved helping raise her daughter Casey. He was a class act, thoughtful, reserved, and always available to lend an ear to listen. He feared nothing and saw the impossible as just another challenge. He loved to read, work outside, and enjoyed his many four-legged babies currently, Sully and Boo. He loved and valued his family and was always willing to help and take care of them in any way he could.
