Olive Clarke Law, born Olive Yapp on March 27, 1946, in Anchovy, St James, Jamaica WI, passed away on January 13, 2024, in Ft Lauderdale, Florida at the age of 77. Olive was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend.
Olive was an exceptional woman with a deep faith and a passion for sharing the wisdom of the Bible. As an evangelist, her ability to relate our lives to the teachings of the Bible was truly unique. Olive's stories brought comfort, healing, and inspiration to all who heard them. Her gift for storytelling and her ability to connect with people through the word of God will be greatly missed.
In her early years, Olive attended Anchovy Primary School and Anchovy High School. She furthered her education at Dawkins Commercial, where she learned shorthand and typing. Olive's baking skills were exceptional, and she won multiple awards, including the #1 prize for baking in the 4H Club bake-off competition.
Olive's career began at Woolworth in Montego Bay, Jamaica, where she worked for over 20 years. She even won the title of Ms. Woolworth in a beauty contest. In 1966, Olive welcomed her one and only daughter Denise Clarke Myrie into the world and dedicated herself to providing her with a wonderful life, sending her to prestigious schools in Jamaica. While working at Woolworth, Olive had bigger aspirations and opened a successful restaurant in Montego Bay, where her brother Barry served as the chef.
In 1982, Olive migrated to the United States and settled in New Jersey with her sister Agnes. However, she found the cold weather unfavorable and moved to Florida to be closer to her other sisters and family. Olive resumed working for FW Woolworth & Co at The Pompano Fashion Square Mall and later pursued her entrepreneurial dreams by opening Bargain Fashion and Accessories store in Pompano Beach. After the closure of Woolworth, Olive joined Land and Sea Boating Company as an inventory specialist, where she worked until 2021 when she became ill.
Olive's true passion was serving the Lord and going to church. She initially attended Holy Temple #1 in Ft. Lauderdale, where she met and fell in love with Deacon Leroy Law. They got married on August 27, 1988, and began worshiping together at Holy Temple #4 in Miami. Olive became an Evangelist at Holy Temple #4 and led the prayer group while managing the Sunday school registry. She hosted prayer meetings at her home and was known as a true prayer warrior, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement.
In her free time, Olive enjoyed crochet and sewing her own clothing. She loved talking on the phone with her prayer partners, loved watching movies even if it meant occasionally talking through the movie, which her family fondly remembers. Olive's love for reading extended to her Bible, which she cherished. Alongside her husband Leroy, Olive loved to travel, especially to Jamaica to visit her family and attend church conventions in Georgia.
