Jason Marriott the bridge and an anchor throughout our family was an incredible man. He was adored by his wife, Kenesha as well as those closest to him. To name a few: His Mother Marva, his Uncle Ashley, His Aunty Nola, His cousins Todd, Michelle, Dale, and his childhood best friends he considered brothers, Big Drew and Little Drew.). Though he does not leave behind any children, Jason's vastly younger siblings Soukeyna, Tyreke, Abigail, Carla, as well as all the relatives he'd show support and mentor , like myself look forward to carrying on his legacy. His hard work, toughness, never back down mentality, his caring nature, his humour, his love for life and his unwavering love for his NY sports teams are some of the many traits that characterized the GENERAL.
Markie was born on May 2nd 1977 in Kingston, Jamaica. His constant love for Jamaica radiated from him every day of his life. Growing up, if he wasn't fixing bicycles or collecting comic books he was either playing basketball or getting in trouble, being a kid. He was a protector by nature and was always willing to go above and beyond to protect the people closest to his heart no matter what the consequences were.
Entering his adolescent years he along with his mother Marva, migrated to the US residing in his great state of NY. His aunt, my mother, Nola and our grandmother Sista G would soon follow and reside together. This is where my admiration for my big cousin would begin and blossom. At my beginning. My oldest memories of my big cousin are the nights I’d spend waiting up with grandma making sure everyone in our house got home. Markie was always the last one in after hanging out with his boys. Each night he’d arrive to the aftermath of my pestering shenanigans. Whether it be stuffing his entertainment devices with chips and different snacks, misplacing his shoes and jewelry from wearing them all around the house, or over feeding his fish and destroying his fish tank, I was so fascinated with my big cousin I wanted to do everything just like him. He then used my fascination to his advantage when he’d start to give me chores to do while he was gone like brush and clean his Timb boots for him, On weekends He’d teach me how to play his favorite video games all while getting his hair braided. Each time by a beautiful girlfriend of his. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.
Jason had a deep love for basketball, in particular the NBA game. As passionate a Knicks fan as they come. To keep me entertained and from being a nuisance, he’d play his Championship Chicago Bulls VHS tapes and explain the game to me in such detail it stuck with me and grew my own love for the sport. I never got the chance to see him play sports but ive heard stories of Markie being the smallest player but the most relentless. Markie would always preach to me, “see things through”, “plan ahead”, and “save my money”. Just a few of the lessons he made sure to instill in the many that looked up to him.
Jason’s connection to Jamaica and his family still residing there ran deep. Jason would visit multiple times a year; each time exciting friends and family with his presence and love. For years he would send gifts for those he loved back home. He had such a big caring heart. Markie is Survived by his wife Kenesha, Mother Marva, Sisters Soukeyna, Abigail, Carla, , his brother Tyreke,Kirk Todd his Aunts and Uncles Nola, Norma, Paulette, Judy, Sharon, Al, Ashley, Richie, Barry, and countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Jason, Markie, General forever.
