Born November 25, 1950 in Gainesville, Florida to June Yinger Kyle and William Cabot Kyle, Jr. Corky grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he loved hunting, fishing, scuba diving, hunting snakes for Dr. Bill Haast’s Miami Serpentarium, and helping many of his fellow Boy Scouts earn their snake merit badges. Moving with his family in 1966 to Tallahassee, he was in the first graduating class of Rickards High School. After serving in the Air Force flying supplies in a Hercules C-130, he became a crop duster flying out of Quincy, Florida. Deciding on a new path, Corky graduated from the Regency Nursing Program and worked on the cardiac floor at Tallahassee Memorial until his retirement in 2012. It was while at Tallahassee Memorial he met his future wife over a heart transplant patient. With his love of the sea Corky obtained his Coast Guard Captain’s license and started Summer Breeze Scallop Charters and Boat Rentals. He went on to captain the stone crab boat the “Miss Bree”. Corky also became a notary, uniting many couples in marriage on land and sea. Corky was a generous, big hearted man, always willing to share his knowledge from nature to nursing.
Corky was preceded in death by his parents, June and William Kyle, Jr., and his son, William “Cabot” Kyle IV. He is survived by his wife, Karen Olliff Kyle; sister, Chris Gillespie (Tom); niece, Jessica Gillespie; and special daughter-in-heart, Kelly Pittinaro (Chris), and children Bree and Allie.
