Susan Belloff Miller

Susan “Sue” Belloff Miller, 93, died on Monday September 20, 2021 in Tallahassee, Florida. She faced 7 years of living courageously with dementia and her death was hastened after contracting COVID-19. On Monday, she ate breakfast, her favorite meal, and died peacefully before lunch.

Sue was born in Syracuse NY and grew up in Syracuse and Boston. After her mother passed away when she was 17 years old, she returned to Syracuse where she met her beloved husband and raised two children. She worked as a Social Worker in the Onondaga County Welfare Department for 30 years of dedicated employment. After retiring, she then moved to Tallahassee with her husband in 1986 to be near her daughter and grandchildren, where she thoroughly enjoyed her senior years helping to raise them and being with family. She loved gardening, cooking, sewing Halloween costumes, and talking to her pet cockatiel Shadow who lived 30 years.

Sue was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Annie Kieve Belloff, father, Isadore Belloff, and sister, Ruthann Newman. Her husband, Melvin Wilson Miller, the love of her life, passed away at the age of 91 in 2012, after they had been married for 60 years. She lost her beloved son, Walter “Wally” E. Miller, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 66 in 2019. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Amy Miller Wetherby and her husband Dean Gioia, their children — her grandson, Shane Eugene Wetherby, her granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Wetherby, and Rebecca’s husband Jerry Allen Coffman. Her very special great granddaughter, Juniper Nova Coffman, born to Rebecca and Jerry, turned one year old before Sue died. She is also survived by her son’s widow, Jane Marie Verostek, their children — her granddaughters, Minerva Ann Miller and Octavia Aurelia Miller, her sister-in-law, Lynn Miller, her cousin, Stephani Shelton, and many nieces and nephews and their children who she loved dearly and who will miss her.
