She was born in Savannah, GA on March 22, 1935. Shirley graduated from Stilson High School and received her Nursing degree from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing. She was married to Talmadge L. Rushing on December 14, 1957 and was married for 60 years, until his passing in 2018.
Shirley enjoyed a career in nursing at the Florida State University Health and Wellness Center, and later at the Olin Corporation. She was a member of the Florida Nursing Association, and had a passion for travel, property management, her grandchildren, and helping others.
She is survived by her sister, Vera Sellers; son, Stephen (Kirsten) Rushing; daughter, Maria (Michael) Stephens; and four grandchildren: Kyle, Benjamin and Hannah Rushing, and Ella Stephens.
A visitation for Shirley will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312 with funeral service to begin at 11 AM. The burial will take place immediately after the service in MeadowWood Memorial Park.
