Roy Dozier Johnson, 85, of Tallahassee, FL passed away on August 3, 2022. He was born in Tallahassee, FL on December 11, 1936 to J.D. and Mary Lou Johnson. Dozier graduated from Leon High School in 1955 and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Florida State University in 1961. He married Joy Blalock on June 3, 1961.
Dozier is preceded in death by his parents, brother J.D. Johnson Jr. of Pensacola, and sister Karen Johnson Beauchamp of Chiefland. He is survived by his wife Joy of Tallahassee, FL; his son Brian Johnson of Franklin, TN, daughter in-law Bitsy Johnson, granddaughters Brynn Johnson and Carly Johnson, and granddaughter Kristen Robertson, and great granddaughter Emery Robertson; his son Alan Johnson of Marietta, GA, daughter in-law Marisa and grandchildren Tate, Garrett, Audrey and Seth; his daughter Kristi Kiefer of Knoxville, TN, son-in-law Justin and grandsons Jacob and Sean; and his sister Debbie Thaxton of Pensacola, FL and brother in-law Nelson.
Dozier had a passion for serving The Lord and His Church, having been an ordained deacon for 57 years. He had been an active member of Thomasville Road Baptist Church for the last 25 years. He loved helping others, everything outdoors and Florida State sports.
Dozier was a United States Air Force Veteran who graduated from flight school as an Aviation Cadet in 1960 and served his country until 1965.
Early in his career, Dozier worked for Martin-Marietta in the aerospace industry. He later completed a 30-year career with the State of Florida holding multiple leadership roles including Director-Legislative Data Center, Director-Joint Legislative Management Committee, Director-Systems and Data Processing Division, Assistant Director-Division of Purchasing and Director-Division of Information Services.
In retirement, Dozier served on the Board of Trustees of The Baptist College of Florida and was an active member on the Florida State Board of Missions.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Thomasville Road Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM followed by the Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM.
