He was born in Big Rapids, Michigan on October 4th, 1946, to Francis and Gloria Akom. Rock graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1964. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy where he served as an electronics technician and radar repairman, which he enjoyed very much. Following four years of service and an honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended college at Stetson University in Deland, Florida.
He was married to Elizabeth Ann Swanson on August 18, 1975, in Tallahassee. Rock was an extraordinary salesman for multiple companies including Mechanics Choice and Curtis 1000 prior to spending the latter part of his career as vice president for Akom Financial Consultants.
Rock was a sports enthusiast who loved fishing with his grandchildren and enjoyed teaching both his kids and grandkids baseball, softball, football. In addition, he loved golf with a passion and played for over 50 years carrying a 10-15 handicap for many years.
Rock was a strong Christian man and a loving husband who always placed his family first. He was survived by his wife of 47 years Elizabeth, daughter and son in law Niki and John Joens, son and daughter in law Mike Akom and Julie Grosvenor, grandchildren Shawn Joens, Maxwell Akom, and Calvin Akom as well as his siblings Steve Akom, Tim Akom, Nick Akom, and Tammy Spring.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home (1737 Riggins Road).
