He was a graduate of Columbus High School. In 1948 he worked as a Musician playing clarinet & saxophone for a short period with a Dance Band and also worked at the Gas Company in Columbus, NE prior to joining the Navy as a Musician in October 1951 during the Korean War. He was
married to Lura Marie Richardson on April 12. 1952 while serving in the Navy in Washington DC. She was formerly from Seagrove, NC and was employed by the FBI in Washington DC.
After he was discharged he returned to Columbus where he returned to work at the Gas Company. In 1958 he transferred to Lincoln, Nebraska as Budgets & Materials Supervisor for the Gas and Electric Divisions of Central Electric & Gas Company. In 1960 he was transferred to Sioux Falls, SD with the company as Division Commercial Manager until 1974. During the time he was in SD he attended Augustana College and took night in Accounting, Finance and Economics. Robert was transferred to
the Corporate Offices in Lincoln, Nebraska in August 1974 and assumed the position of Payroll Manager for the Centel System. In 1978, he was transferred to Tallahassee Florida as State Accounting
Manager and retired from Sprint on Sept. l, 1993.
He was active in music all his life playing in Municipal Bands, The Sioux Falls Symphony and many Big Dance Bands and Jazz Combo's as well as his tour as a U.S Navy Musician. He is survived by his Wife, Lura Marie Drawbaugh, a Son Jeffrey of Tallahassee Florida, and Son Bruce of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Mr. Drawbaugh was a member of Lebanon Lodge #323 AF&AM in Columbus, NE, a member of the York Rite Bodies in Lincoln, NE, and a member of Sesostris Shrine, in Lincoln, NE.
A memorial service for Robert will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312.
