Richard graduated from Mainland High School in 1952, attended the University of Florida and Stetson University, and served in the Army with a tour in Korea. He worked as a Professional Engineer (Civil) with the State of FL Department of Transportation, for 43 years. He was involved in the Tallahassee community as a Jaycee, FHS booster, coached youth sports, and managed and played slowpitch softball into his 70’s with the Tallahassee Parks and Rec. Richard enjoyed 47 years of marriage to Peggy Lynn (Davis) Singleton until her passing in Dec 2008.
He is survived by son, Scott Singleton; daughter, Lynn Singleton (Mike) Helton; and is affectionately known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren: Matt and Summer Singleton and their mother, Anna, Amanda (Reaney) Rushing, Darren (Ali) Helton, Chase Helton, Mike (Vanessa) Helton, Jr.; 2 great-grandchildren: Payton Rushing and Reid Helton; and 2 sisters: Betty Day (Carl) and Shirley West. He is predeceased by sister Bertha Toothaker. He will be truly missed by a host of family, neighbors, friends and his four-legged Dusty-Buddy, “Junior.”
A Celebration of Life will be on Monday (4/10) at 11:30 AM at Culley’s MeadowWood Chapel, 700 Timberlane Road. Friends may call on the family Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
