He was born in Elmira, New York, on April 23, 1923. Ray served in the 375th Field Artillery, 100th Division in Europe during World War II. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech.
Ray married Catherine ‘Cappy’ Davis in 1946. They were long time Tallahassee residents, having moved here in 1948. Ray worked for 36 years for the Florida Department of Transportation in the areas of bridge design, early computer engineering development, and as Director of Planning and Programming for the agency.
Ray was an elder and active member in Tallahassee’s First Presbyterian Church, where he was involved in many church functions. He was a member of the Tallahassee Kiwanis Club for 40 years.
His children and grandchildren will miss his kindness and silly jokes. Ray and Cappy hosted large family events for many years, including holiday meals and annual beach trips.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cappy, after nearly 60 years of marriage, and by his brother Charles L’Amoreaux. He is survived by his two daughters, Bobbi Sexton (and husband Paul) of Tallahassee, Carol Allen of North Hampton, New Hampshire, and his son, Ray L’Amoreaux, Jr., (and wife Kathy) of Denver, North Carolina, seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a private graveside service.
