Mildred C. (DiPietro) Trezza, 98, of Tallahassee Florida passed away on January 7, 2022 having led an extraordinarily healthy, happy, successful, and productive life of service to others. She lived independently until days before her passing, hosting wine and cheese parties, praying the Rosary, and volunteering in her community.
Growing up in the 1920's and coming of age during the late Depression and WWII, she was the epitome of class. She was the dutiful professor's wife, party planner extraordinaire, consummate hostess, the doting and affectionate mother, grandmother and aunt who still managed to wield an iron fist in a velvet glove. You just didn't realize it at the time.
She was born in Philadelphia, PA, on March 31, 1923. She graduated from South Philadelphia High School. She married Alphonse F. “Al” Trezza on May 19, 1945. Al continued to bring her flowers and sing “You Are My Sunshine” to her for all 64 years of their marriage.
Mildred taught elementary school, grades 3, 4, and 5, for more than 30 years at Catholic schools in Illinois, Virginia, and Florida and is personally responsible for tens of thousands of kids knowing "Frere Jacques." Mrs. Trezza was beloved by numerous former students, still receiving Christmas cards from some decades after having them in class. Mildred was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church after relocating to Tallahassee in the 1980s.
Volunteering was Mildred’s passion. Deeply devoted to church, family, and community, she generously and enthusiastically gave thousands of hours of her time. She served as President of the FSU Faculty and Friends Club (1987-88). She volunteered in Senator Bob Graham’s office for more than 14 years. At Westminster Oaks, she volunteered for more than 5 years before becoming a resident, working in Marketing, the Country Store, the Boutique, Library, Admissions, and Health Center. She served on Residents’ Council and Westminster Retirement Communities Foundation Board. She was named Volunteer of Year in 2012. She very likely was escorted to the express concierge line at the Pearly Gates.
Mildred Trezza was a 4'9" force of nature. She was also a gift to all who knew her.
Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years Al, son Alphonse F. Trezza, Jr., daughter-in-law Carole Trezza, and son-in-law James R. Johnston. She is survived by her daughter Carol (Trezza) Johnston of Joliet IL, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to the Westminster Retirement Communities Foundation or Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 624 Miccosukee Rd., Tallahassee FL 32308. The funeral mass will be livestreamed on Blessed Sacrament's website https://bsctlh.com/. She will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA in the spring.
