Melanie Jane Levine was born on October 24, 1947, to Marjorie and Saul Levine in Miami, Florida. After graduating Miami Senior High School, Melanie attended the Florida College of Medical Technology. In 1968, she married David Allan Roy and gave birth to a daughter, Elisa Roy, in 1973. In 1980, Melanie moved, with her mother and daughter, to Gainesville, Florida. In 1986, Melanie married Phillip Mueller Achey, with whom she spent the reminder of her life.
As a child and young woman, Melanie studied dance, a passion she shared with her daughter. She was a great lover of animals and cherished her many pets over the years. She was also a gifted writer, even having a short story published in the Gainesville Sun, relating the funny relationship between her husband and her little dog, Rocky. A true Floridian, Melanie loved the ocean, and she spent many holiday weekends walking the beach with her husband.
In their retirement years, Phillip and Melanie moved to Tallahassee to live on Lake Talquin, near their son Jeff and grandson Jacob. It was there that she spent the last years of her life, in a peaceful neighborhood near family, surrounded by the sights and sounds of water.
She is predeceased by her mother, Marjorie and her father, Saul. She is survived by her husband Phillip Achey and her daughter Elisa Berry.
Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
