She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James D. Hartsfield; daughter Donna Sue “Susie” Parslow and her husband Matt (Tallahassee); daughter Sharron Gail “Shari” Phillips and her husband Carl (Jacksonville); and daughter-in-law Laurie Hartsfield (Tallahassee). She also leaves behind grandchildren Sharon and Caren Parslow; Jack, Trapp and George Hartsfield; and Carlye and Daniel Phillips.
She was preceded in death by son John Wescott “Scott” Hartsfield, and by her parents John Jackson Chandler and Ada Bardin Durham.
Martha Sue was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, on December 15, 1933. She graduated from Miami Edison High School. She is a 1958 graduate of Florida State University where she received a degree in Social Work. While at FSU, she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and the FSU Flying High Circus. Also, she was an active 15 year member, in the Tallahassee Garden Club, Radiance Circle.
Her greatest fulfillment was the privilege to be a stay at home mom for both her children and grandchildren, and to be able to have a positive influence on their lives. Her joy of life was an inspiration to everyone that knew her. She dedicated her life to her Lord and family.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel at Culley’s Meadowwood Funeral Home on Timberlane Road. A private burial services will be held at Oakland Cemetery.
