He was born in 1943 to the late Marco A. Garcia, Sr. and Hazel F. Douglass in Lake City, FL. Raised in Jacksonville, he graduated from Andrew Jackson Sr High School in 1961 and served eight years in the US Air Force, honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant in August 1969. Under the GI Bill, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Jones Business College in 1977.
He retired in January 2004 from AT&T, having worked as a Communications Technician for 35 years in the Jacksonville and Tallahassee offices. His exemplary work ethic and dedication are a legacy to his children. He enjoyed the outdoors, had a wonderful sense of humor, was a generous benefactor, and loved to watch westerns on television with his faithful canine companions.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Iris E. Smith Garcia; sons Marco Garcia, III, of Jacksonville; Andrew Garcia, of Middleburg; and Matthew Garcia, of Quincy, FL; daughters Leanna Garcia Barone, of Jacksonville; and Melanie Teegen (James), of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren Nisha Rhodes, Ariana Barone, and Victor Barone; and great-granddaughter Ivy Ricker; siblings Tony Garcia (Cheryl), Anita White, Dina Voutour (Tom), Laurie Belinsky (Roy Pinney), Terri Williamson (Chris Skopek); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by baby daughter Ellie; brother Douglas Garcia; sisters Lisa Hartley and Linda Rookard; and his parents.
Visitation with the family will be at 11:00am Tuesday, August 3, at Culley’s MeadowWood, 1737 Riggins Rd, Tallahassee. Funeral Service will follow at noon. Burial will be at 2:00pm at the Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Pkwy, Tallahassee.
