Lillian Lou Beane Barineau, 95, went home to be with her Lord on July 9th, 2016 in Tallahassee. Lillian, Nina as she was known by her family, was born in the Baum Community in Leon County on April 8, 1921, the 10th of 12 children of Fannie Redfern Beane and Victor Horace Beane. She attended the original Sealey Elementary and Leon High School and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Lakeview Baptist Church and is currently a member of Seminole Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school, Bible School, mission programs and sang in the choir as long as she was able.
Her life was one of service. She always looked for opportunities to help others by providing transportation, food, clothing and especially cleaning, which she loved to do. In her later years she provided home health care for the elderly and disabled. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She loved hymns and had a beautiful voice. She was frequently asked to sing at weddings when she was younger. She was a very creative person who loved to make Halloween costumes and quilts, paint, draw, dance and make up silly songs, games and stories for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her final days, when she was lucid, she quoted rhymes and teased them as she did when they were children, bringing laughter to balance the tears. She shared her faith, creativity and sense of humor with each of them.
She was greeted in heaven by her parents, her eleven brothers and sisters, her husband Deloy, and her much loved daughter Dorothy (DeDe) Fray. She leaves behind to treasure her memory daughters Linda Smith (Bill), Carol Vickers (Johnny), Charlotte Flowers, and her adopted daughter Juana Powell who she loved and raised as her own from childhood; nine grandchildren, Leslie Rabitaille (Robert), Mickie Smith, Trace Smith (DeeDee), Rachel Madurski (Steve), Luke Vickers, Travis Flowers, Julie Frick (Skip), Sarah Simmons and Justin Powell; fourteen great grandchildren; a very special niece who was more like a daughter, Faye Trammell (David), and many other family members.
Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home is assisting the Barineau family with arrangements. They will be receiving friends from 6-8pm on Monday, July 11th at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, July 12th at Seminole Baptist Church, 3330 Mission Rd. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
The family wants to thank the staff at Seven Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center for their kindness and care, especially Demetrice Johnson, her primary caregiver, who cared for her with gentleness and love as if she were her own mother. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to The Gideons International or Samaritans Purse in her name.
