LtCol Leo R. Jamieson, USMC retired, passed from this life June 15, 2021, in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama, May 9, 1938, to the late Leo Early Jamieson and the late Q.V. Matthews Jamieson. A decorated career Marine Corps officer, he was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor for heroic achievement and acts of valor in combat during his service in Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary, two sons, Mark K. Jamieson, Sr. (Suzy) of Alachua, Florida, and Lee R. Jamieson (Kathy) of Tallahassee, Florida, four grandchildren, Mark Kevin Jamieson, Jr. (Kelsey) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, David M. Jamieson of Alachua, Florida, Lee R. Jamieson, Jr. (Katie) of Tallahassee, Florida, and Madelaine Jamieson Colwell (Keenan) of Tallahassee, Florida, and two great-grandchildren, Eliza Kate Jamieson and Annaleigh Jamieson, one sister Melissa Jamieson Faulk (Bruce), and nieces and nephews.
Growing up in Montgomery County, Leo attended Stark Military School, Cloverdale Junior High School, and Sidney Lanier High School (class of 1956), before earning a bachelor’s degree from David Lipscomb College. He joined the United States Marine corps after high school in 1956, and received his commission as Second Lieutenant in June 1960.
Following his retirement from the Marine Corps in 1986, Leo attended Auburn University in Montgomery where he earned a Master’s degree in counseling. He then taught at Faulkner University, was a member of the Civitans Club (past President) and served on the Prattville city board of zoning and adjustment as its chairman for over 25 years.
He had been a member of the church of Christ since age 13, worshipping and working in congregations around the United States and Japan, and was an active member of the Prattville church of Christ for over 30 years.
Arrangements are being handled by Culley’s Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida, and Rideout’s Funeral Home in Prattville, Alabama. Visitation will be at the Prattville church of Christ Friday, June 25th, from 4:00-8:00pm, and Saturday, June 26th, from 10:00-11:00am. The memorial service will take place Saturday, June 26th, at 11:00am at the Prattville church of Christ. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
