Keith Paul Matherne, age 82, died Saturday, September 24, 2016 in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born November 23, 1933 in Marksville, Louisiana, eventually moving to Shreveport, Louisiana where he attended Fairpark High School. After graduating in 1952, he enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. He attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he received a bachelor’s degree in geology.
Shortly after his graduation from college, Keith took a job with Boeing, eventually moving from Slidell, Louisiana to Huntsville, Alabama. Several years later, he would take a position with the state of Florida as an investigator in the Division of Health Care Administration, relocating to Tallahassee with his family, where he would work until his retirement. Along with his hot coffee, Keith enjoyed working on cars, cooking and eating gumbo—a dish of his native Louisiana—as well as fishing in his beloved Gulf of Mexico.
Survivors include son Matt Matherne (Angela) of Tallahassee; son Marlow Matherne (Marilyn) of Tallahassee; daughter Holly Izard (Mike) of Darien, CT; son Adam Matherne of Denver, CO; grandchildren Zoe Matherne, Parker Matherne, Margaux Izard, Julien Izard; and ex-wife and lifelong friend Hannah Matherne of Panama City Beach, FL.
