Katy graduated from Yorktown High School in Alexandria, Virginia and earned higher degrees at Tallahassee Community College and Florida State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in art history. She soon showed that she was a brilliant business manager. She used those talents as the proud co-owner of McGlynn Laboratories for many years.
Katy’s passions were for her children, she raised a big family, had a gift for teaching and was a prodigious educator at the Magnolia School. She was talented at knitting and spent countless hours pursuing this art in the most expert, artistic and complex manner. She spent many hours knitting warm hugs for those that she loved. Katy volunteered at Wakulla Springs with the Springs Watch crew, sampling and protecting that magnificent spring. Katy ran countless conferences, meetings, and groups for Al-anon where she counselled and helped multitudes of people whose family members were suffering from addiction. She had the ability to take one person’s struggles and turn them into a new simple perspective.
Katy is proceeded in death by her parents Denny and Judy Fox and her brother Stewart Fox. She is survived by her husband, of 42 years, Dr. Sean Ernst McGlynn, her children, Brendan Alan (wife Rachel) McGlynn, Rory Patrick (partner Jen) McGlynn, Cassie Avery (partner Scot) McGlynn, and Julia Ilona (partner Kaden) McGlynn and her grandchildren Iris Avery Lee, Isabella Paulina McGlynn and Ilona Avery McGlynn, her sister Sally (Art) Fox Conklin.
Katy’s life was cut short after a brief battle with cancer.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 25th at 1:30PM at The Lodge at Wakulla Springs. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you consider donations to Friends of Wakulla Springs, Bicycle House Tallahassee, or a local Al-anon chapter.
