Joe Bruce Kittrell, 77, passed away on May 13, 2015, at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born on May 29, 1937, in Bellwood, Alabama, to Clyde Kittrell and Lilla Mae Bradshaw Kittrell. He graduated from Leon High School in 1956. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rodney McMillan Kittrell.
He retired from Data Processing Director of Leon County in 1991. He became a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in the 1940s, where he served as a youth pastor, deacon, Trustee, treasurer, teacher, and women’s softball coach. Throughout his life he served as President of the Sunrise Optimist Club, he was an FHSAA football official and participated for 5 years with Builders for Christ. He had a passion for riding his horses, fox hunting, fishing, judging field trials and spending time with his grandchildren who he loved more than life itself.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Kittrell, and his mother, Lilla Mae Bradshaw Kittrell. He is survived by his siblings Louise Kittrell Tolar, Doris Kittrell Love (Charles), Broward R. Kittrell (Helen), Wynell Kittrell Dupree (Bill), and Jim Kittrell (Annette). His son, Joe Bruce Kittrell II (Bridget), his daughter, Katherine Kittrell Anderson (David), his four (4) grandchildren, Mallory McGinnis (Matt), Cody Ross, Jackson Kittrell and Tucker Ross; and three (3) great grandchildren, Teagan McGinnis, Caiden Ross, and Slade McGinnis.
Visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2015, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home on Timberlane Road. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 11:00 am at Immanuel Baptist Church with a graveside service following at Memory Gardens.
