Jane was born in Hartville, Ohio, on January, 15, 1936. To William Jennings and Thelma Norris. She graduated from Belle Glades High School in 1954. She was married to Johnie O. Jackson on May 29th, 1956. She worked for Glades Gas in Clewiston Florida prior to moving to Tallahassee in 1974. Jane and Johnie owned and operated Jackson’s Talquin Grocery from 1974 until 2007. The business served as a neighborhood hub and sportsman’s paradise. Her days began at 6:00 am and ended at 8:30 pm. Her sacrifice, hard work, and kindness to others led to a thriving community that lives on to this day. She was a charter member of the Lake Talquin Baptist Church and sang in their choir for many years. Her Lake Talquin Baptist Church congregation served as a second family and she found great happiness working with the youth in her church community.
She had a passion for serving others, her “Red Hat Society” gatherings, and the occasional indulgent trips to Biloxi, MS and Atmore, Alabama. She took great pride in her family and her “three boys”. Jane’s greatest happiness came from her beloved granddaughters, Ashley, Caitlin, and Allie.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Johnie Jackson, parents William Jennings and Thelma Norris, and Daughter-in-Law Wendy Jackson. She is survived by her sons John Kevin Jackson (Angie), James D. “Jimbo” Jackson (Beth), William Jennings “Jen” Jackson, granddaughters Ashley Rutherford (Lucas), Caitlin Jackson, Allison “Allie” Richards (Justin), great granddaughters Addison Jane and Amelia James Rutherford. She is survived by her siblings, Donna Zawadski, Kenneth Norris, Carl Norris, and William Jennings “Bill” Norris, and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to two very special “adopted” family members Sherry McKenzie and Keilan Davis.
A Memorial Service and celebration of life will be held at Lake Talquin Baptist Church at a later date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Big Bend Hospice. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Saint Augustine Plantation, Big Bend Hospice, and the staff at Tallahassee Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital.
