He was born October 4, 1921 in Wauchula, FL. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot. After the war he entered Rollins College on a football scholarship. George graduated in 1950 with a degree in business administration. He met Susan Monaghan at Rollins and they were married a week after graduation. That marriage lasted for 47 years until Susan’s death in 1997. They had five children in nine years. George travelled extensively around the world as regional and national sales manager for the Ford Steel Co. of St. Louis, MO.
George is survived by his children, son, Peter Mooney ( Donna), daughter, Sarah Rychlik (Mike), son, Curtis Mooney (Jama), daughter, Susan Mooney (Rebecca) and daughter, Lisa Mooney, grandchildren; Nathan, Casey and Clayton Rychlik, Joanna Mooney Robinson (Greg) and Katie Mooney, great grandchildren; Ella Rychlik and Abigail Mooney.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, July 31, 2013 in Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to Florida Wild Mammal Association, 198 Edgar Poole Road, Crawfordville, FL 32327.
