Elinor was born to George Raymond Lutz and Gertrude Kennedy Lutz on June 15, 1923 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania. She grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Mount St Joseph Academy in 1940 and then attended Drexel Institute of Technology until her marriage to Martin Charles Hynes on October 6, 1942. Following WWII they resided in Wyndmoor, PA and then Philadelphia until they retired to Naples in 1979. While in Philadelphia Ellie volunteered with the Girls Scouts, Cub Scouts, in her children's schools and delivered Meals on Wheels. In Naples, she mentored and tutored at Gulf View Middle School, ushered and was a docent for the Naples Players, participated in the Women's Club of Naples where she served as historian, worked with Reading Is Fundamental with the Immokalee Child Care Center, and was an active member of St Ann's Catholic Church. Upon moving to Tallahassee in 2003 she resided at Heritage Oaks. There she served on the Residents Council and was the librarian for the community. Elinor was a parishioner of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and also a part of the ministry at Trinity United Methodist Church.
She is predeceased by her husband, Martin C. Hynes, her children, Martin C. Hynes Jr. and Elinor Louise Hynes, her parents G. Raymond and Gertrude Lutz, her stepmother Elizabeth Hynes Lutz and her sister Carol Raymond Lutz Michaels.
She is survived by her children Barbara Ann Hynes of Tallahassee, Virginia Hynes Honohan (John) of Cortland Manor, NY, R. Patrick Hynes of Wyndmoor, PA, Paul Jon Hynes (Sharon) of Orlando, FL, daughter-in-law, Cheryl Hynes O'Donnell (John) of Downingtown, PA and her eleven grandchildren; Peter Doak of Berkeley, CA, Emily Doak (Rick Hillis) of Greencastle, IN, Martin Hynes III of Philadelphia, Geoffrey Hynes (Michelle ) of Manoa, PA, Kevin Hynes of Haverford, PA, John and Tracey Honohan of Cortland Manor, Liam and Molly Hynes of Wyndmoor, PA and Ian and Mahalla Hynes of Orlando, and two great grandchildren, Kyra and Geoffrey Hynes of Manoa, PA.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 24 at 2:00 pm at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Interment will be in Philadelphia, PA at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery on a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Big Bend Hospice or Trinity United Methodist Church.
