He was born on Sept 16, 1961 in Chicago, Il. to Genevieve Kanape Blazek and Ronald Blazek, and came to Tallahassee when his dad accepted a teaching position at Florida State University. After graduating from Lincoln High School, he attended Florida State University and received his B.S. in psychology, and later his M.S. in Library Science. Following graduation, Dave worked at various positions, including the State Library. He battled Type 1 diabetes from the age of nine. Dave's passion was mainly in contemporary music, developing an early and lasting interest in Bob Dylan in his formative years, and later the work of Daniel Johnston, Leonard Cohen, and the alternative music scene. In addition to music, there was his absolute fascination with the artistic endeavors of Salvador Dali, and visits to the museum in St. Petersburg were among his most precious memories. In his early years, he enjoyed his season tickets to the FSU football games and cheered for his hometown Chicago Bears, Bulls, and both the Cubs and the White Sox. He liked old school professional wrestling and was an animal lover, nurturing his pet cats.
Dave is survived by his parents, Genny and Ron, and by his brother, Daniel, who now lives in Banco, VA.
