Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Swain. She is survived by her children: Cathleen, Michael, and Jere; her grandchildren Cara, Lea, Sean, and Mimmo; and her great-grandchildren Olivia, Matthew, Alexander, Alison, Annabella, and Reagan.
Catherine was born in Buffalo, New York on January 29, 1922 to Jeremiah and Florence Healy, and had fond memories of her time in New York, especially Salamanca, where she spent her high school years. After graduation and for most of her life, she lived in Miami, Florida, where she and her husband raised their family and later moved to Sebring, Florida.
Her faith was very important to her; and she was very proud to come from a long line of Irish Catholics. Locally, Catherine attended Good Shepherd Catholic Church when she was still able to attend services. A homemaker, her pickles, Irish spaghetti, and jams were a favorite of family and friends. Catherine had an artist’s soul: her paintings, basket weavings, and afghan blankets are cherished by her family. She loved the English language and spent much of her leisure time reading and completing crossword puzzles.
Along with her husband Stan, Catherine traveled across the United States in their RV and spent many summers in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northwestern North Carolina, where they had a cabin.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 PM at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home on Riggins Road. She will be interred next to her husband at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
Catherine will be missed. God bless her.
