Carl Mitchell Smith, 91, of Tallahassee passed away Saturday, September 29,2012 in Tallahassee, FL.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm, Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Culley's Meadow Wood Funeral Home, Timberlane Chapel (850) 893-4177. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, with interment to follow at MeadowWood Memorial Park.
Mr. Smith was born and spent his life in the Tallahassee area. Carl was of the Pentecostal faith, after having come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at the Oak City Assembly of God in October 1948. He was a charter member of the Hayden Road Assembly of God. Carl served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Pacific Theatre. While serving he was injured and received a Purple Heart. He retired from the City of Tallahassee after 27 years of service. Afterwards he worked as a painter with Larry Jones Painting for 17 years. He was a beloved father and grandfather and was held in high esteem by his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Lillie Mae Smith, a son, Joseph M. Smith, a daughter, Mary Smith Vinzant.
Survivors include a daughter, Carla Jones (Larry) of Tallahassee; nine grandchildren, Linda Bryant, Lawrence Jones, Angel Bozeman, Johnny Vinzant, June Johnson, Jerry Vinzant, Jason Smith, Jennifer Abbott, and Joshua Smith; fourteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida.
