Beverly Jane Smith passed away on May 22, 2015. She is survived by her children Wallace Smith, Jr. and wife Tina, Beryl Deremigio and husband Tom, Barbara Anderson and husband Tom, Linda Parker, David Smith and wife Rolga, Julie Smith and partner Brian, Kim Thomas, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Gladys Daire, and brother Raymond Brown and wife Lily. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and cousins were always in her heart, as well as all of her friends.
Beverly led a life filled with adventure, love, laughter, family and friends. Born and raised in Minnesota, her family moved to Port Arthur, Texas where she met and fell in love with a dashing, blue eyed U.S. Air Force aviator. Together they traveled, raising children along the way. She was a warrior's wife, and kept the home fires burning and the family strong. When their life together ended, she moved to Tallahassee to begin a new chapter.
She worked for the Florida Department of Health over 30 years, retired, then got bored with retirement and went back to work with DOH through a private firm until her passing. Her "work family" will remember her as the office grandma who was always ready to listen, give advice, and always willing to help. As all of her children were grown and scattered across the country and the world, her co-workers became her children. She dearly loved her family and friends. She was always willing to open her heart to those in need. To that end, she opened her heart and home to Kim Thomas, who became her daughter and our sister.
Her adventures took her to Japan, Germany, Canada, California, New York, Cape Cod, Atlantic City, Florida, Minnesota, Ohio and Texas but she was always happy when she came back home to Tallahassee. Her love for the city and the Florida State University Seminoles was evident in her support of the team. She held season tickets and never missed a home game, rain or shine.
She was a friend to all and a role model to many. Beverly was a strong, independent woman and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service to celebrate Beverly’s life with her friends and family will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 3PM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home located at 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the National Kidney Foundation, American Heart Association, ASPCA, or charity of your choice.
