I had Mr Guthrie at Hillview Jr High in Pittsburg California. Mr Guthrie went to school with my father in Oklahoma. Mr Guthrie also taught my brothers Dennis Shipley, Bill Shipley. He was a great teacher and a great person.

Dear Bobby, thanks for being my first real fella.  You set the standard high.  Our lives went different directions but I’ve always cherished the wonderful memories of our youth.   

Mr. Guthrie was one of the few men that I looked up to during those critical middle and high school years when Shelly became my closest friend.  He was patient and kind (brave too) when allowing me to drive his pick-up truck, teaching me skills in handling my horse, and in listening to boy crazy teenage girls giggle and sing constantly in the car! He drove us to cheerleading practices, football games, and always detoured to Baskin Robbins.  He had such a laid-back manner, with a subtle sense of humor.  Mr. Guthrie was a dedicated husband and father and his relationship with Shelly was always one I admired.  He made such an impression on his students and so many others. I consider myself so lucky and blessed to have known him. I am sending all of my love and prayers to Shelly at this time.

I loved that man. He was a mentor to me, and a caring father in-law.  He never stopped caring for me, nor I for him. Godspeed, Bob. You were the best.

Bob was a like a second father to me when I was growing up in California. He was also a super shop instructor to the students in Pittsburg CA.  He was a great man and left a super legacy through Shelly and the rest of his extended family.  We are praying for him and for you, Shelly. John and Laura Stowell
